Join us for our new series, Cook the Book, where you will learn how to prepare recipes from a different cookbook each month in our very own kitchen. These classes will give you the opportunity to dive into the cuisines, flavors, methods and techniques of well-known cookbooks, both locally and nationally, that are dear to our hearts and inspire our culinary point of views. This month we are featuring Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook, just nominated for a James Beard Cookbook Award!
There's good reason why Dorie Greenspan has hundreds of thousands who follow her on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Besides from winning numerous accolades such as five James Beard Awards and two Cookbook of the Year Awards, Dorie's food is powerfully cookable making her recipes instant classics.
Her dishes are practical, made with common ingredients from the supermarket, farmers’ market, or pantry. They are easygoing, providing swaps and substitutions, and invite mixing and matching. Many can be served as dinner, or as a side dish, or as an appetizer, or hot, cold, or room temperature. And every single one is like a best friend in the kitchen, full of Dorie’s infectious love of cooking and her trademark hand-holding directions.
In this hands-on class today, your Chopping Block chef instructor will guide you through the ingredients and techniques in order to bring the comforting, satisfying and approachable recipes of Everyday Dorie to life.
Dorie's recipes featured in class include:
- Walnut-Dijon Gougères
- Green-as-Spring Soup with Basil-Lime Cream
- Sheet Pan Supper: Balsamic Chicken with Baby Potatoes and Mushrooms
- Flognarde with Berries (Seasonal Fruit Baked in Custard)
You can purchase a copy of Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook here, but we'll provide printed copies of the recipes in class.
