Virtual Classes

The Chopping Block is teaching you how to cook virtually! Virtual cooking has been part of our strategic planning for years, and we are excited to bring this curriculum to fruition. Get cooking in the comfort of your own kitchen with our virtual Cooking Demonstrations and Cook Along classes. Choose from:

Our Virtual Demonstration classes, via Zoom, are a fun opportunity to watch your chef in action. During class, your chef will teach you how to  prepare the dishes while you observe and take notes. Our Zoom moderator  will make sure your questions submitted through the chat option are answered during or after class. The recipe packet will be provided upon registration. Please note that some recipe steps may be prepared ahead due to the length of the class.

Our Virtual Cook Along classes, via Zoom, will have you and your chef cooking together in real time. We’ll provide you with the recipe packet and equipment list upon registration, so you’re prepared to get cooking, and when it’s over you’ll have a meal on the table! Our Zoom moderator will make sure your questions are answered live by the chef either during or at the end of class. 

Please note: all virtual class sales are final. All virtual students will receive a recording of the class within 48 hours of the class.

Virtual Sourdough Bread Demonstration with Certified Master Baker

We are thrilled to have bread expert, Melina Kelson, join us for a highly informative virtual lecture and demonstration demystifying the art of sourdough starters and sourdough bread. Melina will walk you through every step of sourdough fundamentals including sourdough maintenance, understanding the autolyse method, mixing, shaping, scoring and how to modify home ovens to get professional results. She will also cover key concepts such as simplified baker’s math, steps in yeast dough production, understanding and manipulating fermentation, mixing techniques for the best outcomes and essential tools. Virtual Sous Vide Demonstration

Have you ever wanted to learn the art of sous vide cooking? Join us for a virtual lecture and demonstration as our executive chef, Lisa Counts, walks you through the ins and outs and different equipment options for this popular French technique. Sous vide or “under vacuum”, is when food is vacuum-sealed in a cooking pouch, and heated at a very precise temperature in a water bath. With sous vide, the precision is in the temperature, which the cook sets with the simple push of a button. Cooked at its ideal serving temperature, food can’t overcook or undercook… it’s perfect every time! And for many foods, the technique yields dramatically better results, developing flavors and textures that simply cannot be duplicated using any other cooking method.

Learn the secrets of successful flavor combinations, and learn how to make sense of your sense of taste! With stronger olfactory awareness, you can become a creative cook inspired by your own palate instead of following recipes to the letter.

In this interactive virtual demonstration class, we'll teach you the art of tweaking the five basic tastes - Salty, Sweet, Bitter, Sour and Umami - and how to use herbs, spices, oils, vinegars and aromatic ingredients to create a rich tapestry of cuisine limited only by your imagination.
