Crispy Shrimp Wonton Bites, Made Easy

Let’s face it, traditional wonton folding can be finicky, especially when the wrappers dry out mid-fold. So why not skip the artistry and embrace simplicity? These air-fried shrimp wontons, with wrappers cut into strips and folded in a snap, deliver all the crispy, shrimp-packed flavor you love, without the fuss.
There’s something irresistible about the flavor of these shrimp wontons: juicy, seasoned shrimp wrapped in a golden, crispy shell. They’ve got that perfect balance of savory, garlicky goodness with just a hint of sesame that makes every bite pop. And the best part? They’re versatile enough to fit anywhere on the table. Serve them as a quick appetizer before dinner, pair them with a fresh salad or stir-fried veggies for a light main dish, or set out a platter with dipping sauces for game day snacking. However you bring them to the table, these wontons prove that bold flavor and flexibility can go hand in hand.
Air Fried Shrimp Wontons
Makes: 10 wontons
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 7 minutes
Total Time: 17 minutes
8 ounces shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
3 cloves garlic
3 egg roll wrappers

Prepare the Shrimp Mixture:
1. In a food processor, combine the shrimp, cornstarch, sesame oil, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and garlic. Pulse until the mixture forms a slightly chunky paste. (Alternatively, finely mince the shrimp and mix well with the other ingredients, as I did here).

Form the Shrimp Balls:
2. Using a small melon baller or spoon, scoop out portions of the shrimp mixture and roll them into balls.
Coat with Egg Roll Wrappers:
3. Spread a few strips of egg roll wrapper on a cutting board. Place a shrimp ball on top, then layer more wrapper strips over it. Gently press and roll to coat the shrimp ball evenly with the wrapper strips.

Air Fry the Shrimp Balls:
4. Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (182°C).
5. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil to prevent sticking.
6. Arrange the shrimp balls in a single layer in the basket, ensuring they don’t touch.
7. Air fry for 7-9 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Serve and Enjoy:
8. Let the shrimp balls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet chili sauce or spicy mayo!
