Did You Miss Apple Fest?

We're still reeling from the amazing Apple Fest that took place in Lincoln Square at the beginning of this month.

apple pie productionFor the first time, the annual celebration of fall's favorite fruit lasted two days. All of the businesses on Lincoln Avenue participated by setting up sidewalk tents and featuring apple-themed items. The Chopping Block offered our famous Apple Pies in cast iron skillets as well as Pulled Pork Sandwiches with Apple Slaw. Our Apple Pie is a simple and amazing recipe that welcomes Autumn and sets the scene for the end-of-year holidays.

Here are some of the interesting facts behind our pies this year:

  • Nearly 500 pies were made,
  • 4000 apples were used,
  • 187 pounds of butter were used, and
  • Pie production took place over 4 days

I captured some video and made a short movie to show the pies being made.

If you would like to learn how to make our Apple Pie, don't miss our upcoming Thanksgiving Crash Course. This class is our most popular and comprehensive Thanksgiving class, and it's offered several times during November at both Lincoln Square and the Merchandise Mart. Check our class calendars for the best option for your schedule.

If you would rather let our chefs handle Thanksgiving dessert, we're now taking orders for Apple Pies and Pumpkin Pies. You can pick up the holiday pies at either location the Tuesday or Wednesday before Thanksgiving. This is a great option if you need a hand with the feast or if you'll be bringing a dish to your celebration.
