Say No to Processed Foods by Eating Clean

Andrea
Posted by Andrea on Jan 18, 2016

How is it already the middle of January? I had every intention of starting the year with a clean slate and trying to undo the eating and drinking damage done during the holidays. But with traveling for work and just the usual busyness of everyday life, I've managed to get a late start on my new year resolutions of eating better and exercising more.

But those resolutions are a little different this year. Instead of my usual "lose 10 pounds" goal, I want to make some lifestyle changes that will last the entire year rather than just the month of January. That's why I was incredibly psyched to work on the design for Wellness Chef Alia Dalal's new Clean Eating: Getting Started guide. This free guide is literally jammed packed with helpful information for anyone looking to get more information about eating clean.

Clean_EatingLike many of you, I'd heard the term thrown around by nutritionists and dieticians lately, but I wasn't exactly clear on what clean eating is. Now I know it isn't a diet with a lot of strict rules but rather a a commitment to eating plant-centered, whole foods-based meals. Alia's guide gives you literally everything you need to get started such as:

  • What is clean eating?
  • Why should you eat clean?
  • What are the core principles of a clean diet?
  • What should you have in your fridge and pantry at all times?
  • What are some recipes to get started?

In addition to this amazing (and free) resource, Alia has also put together an Anti-Meal Plan on her own website. It's everything I need for 3 different quick and flexible weeknight meals. And let's face it, after a busy day at work, that's when I tend to falter and pick up to go food instead of spending the time and effort on a healthy homemade dinner.

Alia sends you emails with a shopping list, tricks for saving time and the 3 recipes from the plan. Based on the sneak peak of the menu (Roasted Cauliflower Soul Bowl, Pan-fried Quinoa Cakes and Smoky Tabbouleh with Spinach), I'm excited. These recipes are vegetarian, dairy and gluten free, though I'll probably add some animal protein into mine. After all, a girl can't be expect to make TOO much change at once.
